Imphal, June 22,

With the momentum of the ongoing impasse at Manipur University rising day after another in the last 23 days, Union Ministry of the Government of India sent Joint Secretary of the department of Higher Education Mr. G.C. Hosur to take stock of the situation.
The Joint Secretary during his stayed here in Imphal instead of visiting the Manipur University called on the Chief Minister of Manipur Mr. N. Biren Singh and also spend time with Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adiya Prasad Pandey, which the students’ body of the University has been demanding for removal. Before leaving the Joint Secretary met some of representatives of the MUSU by sending formal invitation but refuse to meet the representatives of the Manipur University Teachers’ Association (MUTA).
As per source the Joint Secretary G.C. Hosur arrived in Imphal presumably to gather first-hand information relating to the relentless demand for removal of the present incumbent to the Office of the Vice Chancellor and the call for an enquiry into the administrative and financial irregularities allegedly committed by him.
Prof Lisam Shanjukumar Singh, General Secretary of MUTA in a telephonic talk with the Registrar-in-Charge of the University requested for arranging an interaction with the visiting Joint Secretary G.C. Hosur. But the Registrar-in-charge had informed the MUTA that the Joint Secretary has no desire to talk with them.
MUTA is a teachers’ body which is also on agitation demanding clarification from the VC over the series of allegations levelled against him by the MUSU stating that they stand with the demand of the MUSU.
Meanwhile for reason best known, the Joint secretary sent a formal invitation to the President of MUSU to have a talk regarding the agitation.
A team comprising of MUSU President Mayanglangbam Dayaman, Cultural Secretary L. Robindro Singh, Sports Secretary Nilakanta Longjam and Finance Secretary S. Anish met the Joint secretary today morning at Hotel Classic Grande.
Talking over phone Dayaman said that the Joint Secretary informed that he was not here to find a solution to the ongoing issue at Manipur University but to take stock of what is going on. Dayaman said they have submitted the same memorandum which content series of irregularities and misappropriation to the Joint secretary and reminded him that there is turning back to the agitation until the VC is removed.
The Joint Secretary appealed the students to find an amicable solution as replacement of the VC would take time and the academic atmosphere would be severely disturbed.
On the other hand the Chief Minister of Manipur seems to be taking seriously to the ongoing impasse at Manipur University. Source said that the Joint Secretary was sent by the Union HRD Minister Prakash Javedkar on the request of the Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
Soon after his arrival here in Imphal Joint Secretary G.C. Hosur called on the Chief Minister yesterday evening and discussed about the problem. Details of what were the talks could not be known but Chief Minister wrote in his Facebook page that – they discussed on the present crisis in the Manipur University.
