Three students’ bodies of the state – the All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM), Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) and Apunba Ireipak Maheiroi Singlup (AIMS) today staged a protest rally against the ignorant of the state government in appointing the senior most native officer to the post of Chief Secretary. The three student bodies have been demanding to appoint a senior most native IAS officer to the post however the state government appointed a junior IAS officer as Chief Secretary.
Large number of students both from Hill districts and Valley district today gathered at Adimjati Complex of Chingmeirong at around 11 am today and started the rally at around 11.30 am. The students then march till THAU ground along the North AOC and Khuyathong. A meeting was later held at THAU Ground Thangmeiband. This is perhaps the first rally that students’ group from Hill and Valley join hand for a common protest.
