Rhizome Festival to preserve medicinal plant at Tekcham

Thoubal, Jan.8: With a mission to save the ‘Rhizome’- an endangered medicinal plant available in the state, the   Rural Auxiliary For People’s Action (RAPA), Lamding in association with the Directorate of AYUSH Manipur is organizing the first Rizhome festival from January 17 to January 19 at Ningtam Ingkhol located at Tekcham Maning Ching in Thoubal district. The festival is being sponsored by the Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation  
Even as the name of the festival is Rizhome festival, the organizers main aim to organized the festival is to protect and preserved the various indigenous medicinal plants of various variety available in the state. This was stated by the Secretary of RAPA, Laishram Subhashchandra while  speaking to media persons at Ningtam Ingkhol, the location where the festival is set to organized.
“Entry will be free, and various stalls will be open to showcase the indigenous plants which have medicinal values”, said Subashchandra.
The organizers are also planning cultural programme during the festival to attract visitors.
