In Chandrapur essence of oneness between Meitei and Meitei Pangal still exist

Imphal, Dec 10: In certain part of Manipur, Meitei and Meitei Pangal communities sometime grudge into communal politics, but the two communities live as one community in Chandrapur a village of Chachar district in Assam.

This was witnessed by the team of Journalists from Thoubal and Kakching district who were on tour to Meitei dominated places in Assam. The team left Imphal day before yesterday and were received by All Jiribam Working Journalists’ Union. 

The 8 member team after reaching Jiribam visited Chandrapur village in Assam yesterday. The team was warmly received by

Seram Herajit, President, Manipur Youth Front, Assam, Phanjoubam Lokenath, Secretary of the organisation  and Keisam Bidyapati President of  Manipuri Sahitya Parisad Assam.

The team visited the site where Maharaj Gambit Singh and his brother Nara Singh vow to fight the Burmese intruders during 7 years devastation.

Speaking to the reporters K.Bidyapati said that Chandrapur, which falls under Cachar district of Assam is the first place where the Meitei escaped from the clutch of Burmese gathered and prepared for war in 1826.

Both Meitei and Meitei Pangal live in the village as brothers. At present Nurul Hudda, a Meitei Pangal had represented as MP as CPM from Cachar district.

He further added that Laisharam Merachaoba Singha, Subangkar Singha, Kazi kutub from among metei Pangal had been elected as MLA from Lakhipur constituency, Bidyapati Singha from Hailakandi constituency and Kutub ahamed from Sonai Constituency.

“When Meitei Pagal got elected metei feel proud and in the same way when Meitei got elected Meitei pangal felt proud”,   K.Bidyapati said.

He further added that the essence of oneness still exist among the two communities.
