World Diabetes Day observed at Thoubal

Thoubal, Nov.24: As in other parts of the world, the World Diabetes Day 2017 was observed jointly by District Health Society Thoubal, NCD and National Program for Prevention & Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) under the theme “Women and Diabetes: Our Right to a Healthy Future” today at Seminar hall of Waikhom Mani Girls College,Thoubal.
O.Chitra Devi, Asst.Programme Manager, NCD delivered the welcome and Keynote address.
She said that the first observance of World Diabetes Day was held in November, 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and WHO in response to growing concerns about its escalating health threat posed by diabetes. And World Diabetes Day became an official United Nations Day.
Speaking as chief guest at the observance function Dr.N.Jayantakumar said that diabetes is a kind of a dreaded disease called ‘slow and sweet killing. It is very dangerous, women should be very much concerned about this disease as it affects them a lot.

Superintendent of District Hospital, Thoubal Dr.Hemantakumar Singh, said that frequent test of this disease for each and every girl is much required before marriage so as to prevent widespread occurrence of the disease caused.
Regular exercise is needed so as to keep a healthy life in the day today life, he said.
Principal of Waikhom Mani Girls College, Thoubal Dr.O.Ibeton Devi, District Programme Manager, Thoubal Ch.Basanta Singh and Nodal Officer NCD Clinic Thoubal, Dr.H.Surjit Singh also attended the function.
It may be mentioned that a health clinic was also held in the College Students. A number of persons were tested for sugar in the clinic. A consultation cum interaction programme regarding the disease was also held in the function.
