Sushila completes 100th international matches

Indian hockey player Pukhrambam Sushila Chanu played her 100th international match against New Zealand today at the ongoing FIH Hockey World League-2015 at Antwerp, Belgium.
She will be playing her landmark match today at 5.30 PM (Indian time) against New Zealand.
Born to Pukhrambam Shyamsundar and Pukhrambam Ongbi Lata Devi, the 23-year-old Junior Indian women hockey captain, who hails from Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai made her international debut in 2008 at Junior Asian Cup in Malaysia.
Since then she has bought many laurels for the nation including a Bronze medal in the Four Nations Hockey Championships- 2011; Silver in Olympic Qualifying-2011, Bronze in Four Nations Hockey Championships in 2012 and Gold medal in the recently concluded World Hockey League Round 2 held in New Delhi. The young defender, who is known for her leadership abilities and decision making during critical situations, has scored 4 (four) international goals.
She led the national women’s team for the junior World Cup Hockey in the year 2013 and won the first ever Bronze medal against England.
Speaking to Imphal Times over phone from Belgium, an ecstatic Sushila told “today’s match is important for the team to secure a berth in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. The match will also mark my 100 caps in international matches”.
India is placed in Pool B along with Australia, New Zealand, Poland and host Belgium in the league.
Along with Sushila two other players from Manipur namely Lily Chanu (midfielder) and Anuradha Devi (Forward) are also in the 18 member national team.
Under the new coach Ahrens the women’s team has been hone up for the upcoming Olympic and the team is ready to take on its opponent with confident, she said.
