24th Imphal Book Fair begins at THAU ground

7 Days long 24th Imphal Book Fair, 2015 kick off today at Thangmeiband Athletic Union (THAU) Ground, Imphal, jointly organized by State Central Library, Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur and Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata.
L Nandakumar Singh, MLA of Uripok A/C, Dr Th Khomdom Singh (Retd), Librarian, Consultant, MU, Canchipur and K Radhakumar Singh, Secretary, Art and Culture, Government of Manipur were chaired as the main guests of today’s function.
The 7 days long Imphal Book fair begins with a candle lightning by today’s guests L Nandakumar Singh, Th Khomdon Singh and K Radhakumar Singh.
Addressing the function, Dr K Sushila Devi, Director of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur said that the Imphal Book Fair has been observing since the year 1991 till now where due to some inconvenience in the 1992 Book Fair was unable to organize.  With the participation of 17 firms from the outside state, around 100 stalls are being set up with the participation of different firms from the State, she added.

K Sushila further said that looking at the last year participation of 31 firms from the State, this time the said firms could not met as most of the book firms seems to be in the downfall state due to most of the law and order problem face by the State in the running year.
All the book stalls are being set up with a deposit payment of Rs 5000 each. Almost all the books available at the stalls are being sold with a discount of 15% from the actual price of the books where the discount could be raise more looking at the buyers.
During these 7 days, many programs like cultural shows, painting competitions, meet the stars from the Manipur film industries, recitations, debates for the students and many more will conduct.
