With 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly election round the corner, Imphalites had already engaged   in tough assignment for ensuring success of their dear and near ones. The changes seen in the last few elections showed that the functioning of the Indian democracy largely depends to the success of well setup political party. No doubt constitution of India provides equal opportunity to all citizens of the country when it comes to make their own decision on whether she/he can contest the election, if the criteria demanded to become an elected member is fulfilled. While saying so it is critical to comment on any citizens which is stated are illegible to get elected as the electoral process practice being underway is a real contradiction. It is being stated as the electoral politics happening in the country particularly in the state of Manipur is communalism in nature.
The emerging trend in Indian politics is that any candidate willing to serve the nation will get hardly any chance to contest the election if he does not joined any established political party beside being a member of either high class community. If in case her or his personality cross beyond other contender but chose to fight without joining any political party then he will be the most frustrated representatives ever elected.
Point being noted here is that the present political set up in India now needs candidates to affiliate in any of the political party existed.
Before Narendra Modi, the BJP Prime Minister won a massive victory in the last Parliamentary election – The party however, was not interested in this part of the country – Particularly in the state of Manipur.
Since the massive victory, the fact remain that the election next time will be fight between two main party – one the BJP and its alliance and the other with alliance led by Congress Party.
Making alive the democracy is the need of the hour. And functioning of a democratic government is witness only when there is a strong opposition.
No doubt Congress is in power in the state for 3 consecutive terms. There are certain factors that many people in the state will be fed up of this government. But there are also many factors that people still appreciated this govt – except in some case.
BJP’s ex-facto to believe that it will form govt. next year is perhaps because the NDA govt. led by BJP is in the center and the congress is also confidence of returning to power as there are no qualified contenders (as they assume). The only fear is that there is a rumour of many congress men likely to join the BJP. And the rumour appears true, two strong men of the Congress party today joined the BJP today. One had already joined reaching the number to three. The joining of the three former congress leaders had encouraged many sitting MLAs to resign and joined the BJP. But the BJP will not be able to give party ticket to the fight the upcoming Assembly election.
This is about the political trend of Manipur which is largely depended to the changes happening in Delhi.
It is however hard to believe on the tested and to be tested any changes that people of the region are expecting.
Because whoever come to power, we earnestly request to abolish the treatment of Indians as second class citizens and the first class citizens among the countrymen. Yeah! we are talking about repeal of draconian act AFSPA
