Both the candidates of BJP today got overwhelming victory in the bye-election of Thongju and Thangmeiband Assembly constituency which declared today. The peoples’ mandate is significant for BJP. Opening account at two assembly constituencies in the state proves that the BJP is slowing wining the heart of many people in the state.
Earlier, it was believed that BJP, the right saffron political party is not suited with the soil of Manipur. But the popularity of the party across the nation and its historic victory in the last parliamentary election under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi does have impact in the state.
If one assess the political theatre of the state, the victory of the BJP in both the assembly constituencies of the state is not all surprising. It was expected but as the state is under congress government people at first assume a little bit skeptical of BJP winning in the seats.
Media report during the poll campaign also suggested that the Congress party under the leadership of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam had put all their effort for their candidates in both the assembly election. But the result declare today showed that the mindset of the people have change. People wanted a change in the political party and people also wanted a test to the BJP.
Having said so, both the BJP candidates who got thumping victory in the bye-election are all tested MLAs of their respective constituencies. They were disqualified under the tenth scheduled of the Indian constitution. Voters of their constituencies know them very well. Their popularity is one factor that lead their winning in the bye-election. Plus the political party they chose is also additional gains for their victory as personality plus political party is a major factor that people has been waiting.
People want to teach a lesson to the Ibobi lead congress government for many reasons. Not because the Congress led government at the state has not done anything but because the discriminatory attitude and high level of corruption is not accepted by the people.
But then there is still two years, the two BJP MLAs will be powerless in the house 60 with congress party having absolute majority. And before the 2017 general election come, the congress need to clean their hands if they really fill that they have to come to power again.
