Has the BJP govt. accepted encroachment by Myanmar to Indian Territory? Joykishan asked reacting to Kiren Rijiju statement

Union Home Minister of State for Home Affair Kiren Rijiju’s statement over the border encroachment by Myanmar authority at Manipur’s Tengnoupal district sparks anger to the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee prompting the Spokespersons to called an immediate press conference.

“There is no dispute on the border issue between India and Myanmar”, the Union Home Minister of State Kiren Rijiju was quoted as saying by local media, at a time when even the deputy commissioner of the Tengnoupal district had stated that the Myanmar authority had reinstated Border Pillar no. 81 , 3 Km inside the territory of India.

“Has the BJP government accepted and gave permission to the Myanmar government to occupy the Manipur’s territory as an appeasement policy for building strong relation ties with the Myanmar government?”, Spokesperson of the MPCC , MLA Joykishan asked the BJP authority.

MLA Yamthang Haokip and MLA Okram hennery was also present during the press conference held today afternoon at  Congress Bhavan today afternoon.

Joykishan further said that almost every stakeholder of the states including the CSOs, political parties and the villagers knew that Manipur’s land has been encroached. A 7 member Congress delegation had also visited the border Pillar and learnt that the Deputy Commissioner Radhakumar was right. Villagers also stated that the Myanmar army and the Indian counterpart were seen at the site sometimes back and after the Indian army left the Myanmar army reinstated the border pillar at the site which is 3 Km inside the territory of India.

Joykishan said that if the BJP government is sacrificing the Manipur’s land for building good relations to counter the Chinese influence to Myanmar then the Congress will not remain quiet.

“We will go with all the people and political party whoever is interested in protecting the territory of the state even by crossing the party line for the territory of Manipur , Kh. Joykishan said.

On the other hand , Joykishan also asked the government, the reason behind the abolishing of the all party committee headed by the MLA K. Shyam to inspect the disputed site.

Hitting hard to the State BJP leaders, MLA Joykishan said that the present Ministers and MLAs seem to  consider their ministerial portfolio rather the integrity of the state.

MUSU’s attempt to talk with registrar- in-Charge fails

Attempt to meet the registrar in Charge of the Manipur University to talk over regarding the issues was failed today as the registrar failed to turn up .

President of MUSU Dayaman talking over phone to Imphal Times said that as the MUSU felt it necessary to talk with the in-Charge Registrar as he is the one left in the side of the Vice Chancellor. 7 Head of departments had tendered resignation yesterday after 5 deans of academic affairs had resigned from their respective post following failure to get any response from the Vice Chancellor.

Earlier Dean of Students Prof. Kh. Tomba had resigned.

Source with the Imphal Times said that more HODs are likely to resign in the coming days.

Academicians said that the resignation of the deans of schools and head of department will totally collapsed the academic atmosphere of the University. Classes have already been disrupted and following the resignation of the Head of department it is likely that the University will witness a total shut down in all academic related activities.

Already colleges affiliated to the University have started heating the wave of the impasse at Manipur University.

Before talking to MUSU president, Imphal Times received information that some students were waiting the Registrar in charge of the University but the Registrar refused to meet them. the students talking to Imphal Times said that they will not return back until the registrar showed up. However, MUSU President Dayaman said that they went to meet the registrar as he is now the only person left which can contact the VC.

Pregnant lady alleges murder of her 2-months foetus by 4 persons; denounces police inaction; protest staged

A 28 years-old woman Thanjiklu Remmei, wife of Milanpou Remmei of Namthalung village (Muji Khul), Imphal West, who is a mother of two kids alleged that her two-months foetus was murdered by four persons after she was severely beaten up in public on June 6 this year.  She alleged police inaction against those culprits responsible for the killing of her unborn child.
Villagers of Muji Khul in Thangmeiband Assembly constituency today staged a protest demonstration at their village entry demanding punishment of the culprits behind the heinous action while denouncing police inaction on the report filed by the victim.
Advisor of Women society of Namthalung Village, Alu Kamei talking to reporters said that the police seemed to be protecting the four culprits identified as Aking Gangmei, Adim, Meipipou and Kagadai who had assaulted the two months pregnant lady following which the foetus was killed. Speaking to mediapersons Alu Kamei said that the Police are not taking any action against the culprits even though report about the matter has been submitted.

The victim mother Thanjiklu Remmei while talking to reporters said that on June 6 at around 6 pm when she was staying at the house of her niece located at Namthalung village-2 at Langol Laimanai, some people started destroying house made liquors stock saying that they are members of CADA. The hostile attitude compelled her to come out and as she saw an owner of a tea hotel vandalising her relatives’ properties a brief confrontation took place. Later, Aking Gangmei started assaulting her.
“Some girls too supported by pulling my hair and the three to four persons kicked at my stomach where I was carrying my two-months old foetus”, Thanjiklu Gangmei said.
After that she was taken to RIMS with serious injury as the foetus started bleeding and coming out, and the next day she underwent abortion in a private hospital.
MLA of Thangmeiband Assembly constituency, Khumukcham Joykishan called on the protest site and assured all assistance to mete out justice to the affected lady.
“Foetus killing is not different from murder crime”, the MLA said. He added that when there is complete evidence of a crime being committed why the culprits are not arrested and given punishment as per the law of the land.
“The kind of attitude shows that there is no governance in the state”, Joykishan said and appealed to the concerned to do the needful..

‘BJP have no interest in the ongoing issues at Manipur University’

MPCC Spokesperson Khumukcham Joykishan today threw a criticism at the BJP which is heading both at the Center and also at the state over its failure to show any concerns to the sentimental issue of the state. “Amit Shah, the BJP National President who visited the state yesterday didn’t mention anything about ongoing month long crisis at Manipur University neither he talk anything about the Sports University”, Joykishan said.
The BJP’s National president’s Amt Shah visit is for the benefit of their party only and he and his party don’t bother has ails Manipur, the Congress MLA stated hitting the rival political party.
He further added that nothing has been started for the construction of the National Sports University even though an ordinance has been passed. No visible construction of the NSA complex is seen. Joykishan said people are being treated as fools by the BJP government.

5 Chinese nationals arrested in Kolkata with 197 kgs of banned narcotic substance

A team of Government Railway Police (GRP) from Sealdah detained five Chinese men, all belonging to Guangzhou province in China, from the Kolkata (Chitpur) railway station with 197 kilograms of Amphetamine, a banned narcotic drug with an approximate market value of Rs. 39 crores. The drug was recovered in the form of tablets, packed and hidden inside seven suitcases.
The police team was on a routine vigil at the station area when they spotted the Chinese group. According to the police, the group had plans to fly out of Kolkata early on Saturday morning on a Cathay Pacific flight to Hong Kong. Their passport entries revealed that they have been traveling to India at least four times a year since 2016.
Police also seized seven smartphones, more than 60 debit and credit cards, five Chinese passports, and two Indian sim cards from the possession of the arrested men.
The case has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), West Bengal.

Mariam Longri from Arunachal Pradesh becomes 16th Sunsilk Mega Miss North East 2018

 In front of nearly 1000 spectators from all across the north-eastern region, Mariam Longri from Kharsang, Arunachal Pradesh was crowned the 16th Sunsilk Mega Miss North East 2018 at the ITA Cultural Complex, Machkhowa on Saturday evening. Besides, Tsurila from Nagaland and Jyotismita Baruah from Assam became the 1st and 2nd runners up respectively.  

Having completed 16 glorious years, Mega Mister North East is the biggest beauty pageant of northeast India, conceptualized by leading fashion entrepreneur Abhijit Singha, and produced by Mega Entertainment. The contestants travelled to Guwahati for almost a week of activities which included grooming and training sessions conducted by Contestant Director of Mega Entertainment Juhi Gogoi, followed by rehearsals, leading up to the Grand Finale of the pageant. The pageant has been supported by Title Sponsor Sunsilk, supported by Assam State Biodiversity Board, Hospitality Partner Radisson Blu and Education Partner ITFT College. 

Mariam Longri was crowned by Sunsilk Mega Miss North East 2017 Mary Khyriem in front of a packed audience. I am overwhelmed beyond words…”  

Beautiful Tsurila from Chumukedima, Nagaland, was crowned the first Runner’s up at the gala event on Saturday evening.

 

 Daughter of a retired government employee, and a homemaker mother, Tsurila is a 5th semester BA(Economics) student at Mt. Mary College, Chumukedima. The second Runner’s up at the event was Biswanath Chariali’s Jyotismita Baruah. A 3rd semester student at B. Barooah College, Guwahati, Jyotismita’s parents are government employees.

Doctors’ Day at IMA-MSB House, Lamphelpat

As a part of the Observance of Doctors’ Day, IMA Manipur State Branch organized an interaction session between senior and junior doctors at IMA-MSB House, Lamphelpat at 11.30am today, July 1, 2018. IMA, Manipur State Branch remembered the noble, kind and selfless services of the senior doctors. Dr. N. Sukumar, a nonagenarian shared his life as a doctor and advised the younger doctors to be kind and dutiful.
Doctors took the pledge to the service of humanity led by Brogen Singh Akoijam, the President of IMA-MSB. He also appealed to the doctors to be more compassionate and humane while dealing with patients. He also appealed to public not to resort to violence and destroy properties of the health institutions and harm the doctors. This will bring only hardship to poorer section of the society. Only a handful of persons gain out of such incidents.

Little is known, still feeling’s so huge;
Living through this, life’s an immense pleasure;
Nothing’s barring, still going great although,
It’s just a way ‘feeling’ through, when it’s good;
Sailing across thousands conflicts, and breathing alive;
Tried not to mingle with those, I feel best moody;
Thought, better staying aloof and away far from,
Feeling’s just a compromise as I always do;
Working late night; I thought stepping one pace ahead;
But never Do I, I feel dizzy and sleepy
And missing all day moments, unattended!
Rushing and dashing and hurriedly I recall;
Days shorter and I blink eyes through nights;
I switch getting up earliest, world so silent cold;
Pulling myself back yarning, I do feel napping short awhile;
Satisfaction! A way I believe searching though.

Funny and funny things happening a lot;
Every single desire so irritating;
Food and clothing and decorative and luxurious;  
‘I want it more’ and ‘I want it now’
Sounds irrelevant; making me hard to cooperate,
Doesn’t seem so nice to me, when he’s aggressive;
I look forward searching, should I have to? Never try understanding, how I may carry up situational?
Why should he do that? I ask thousand times,
Making me work burden, making me irresponsible;
‘Now’ or ‘never’, I hate those options,
And ‘Now’ a suicide, time all matters, I can’t stand;
Seeing with his eyes limitless, more and more;
‘Buy me this’ ‘Buy me that’ money scatters aren’t leaves;
New! New is all that matters, changing a living,
Satisfaction! A way finding never fulfill.

Shouting and lecturing, a way tool I use;
Ugly I become; angry I lose every understanding;
Forgetting all love near and far ones, I become so possess;
Pulling myself to nowhere, far beyond those discomforts;
Tens and twenties I thought punishing self, control fasting,
Shall I or Shall I not? A word he utters would suffice;
Anger and violence so wild; I stand protecting first,
Ease your pains and lose your ‘fancy’ desires, I wish hard;
Isn’t that so reasoning? Teaching ‘him’ best simple and low living;
No rules broken; living a consideration mercy;
‘Angry me not’, discard ‘now and new’ forever;
‘Slapping and kicking’ a compromise made between;
Time! Can’t calculate how much still there,
Live ‘me’ within; tomorrow’s just an illusion,

A Washed-Out Summer Vacation in MU – inundating the future of the future generations!

The 5th of Jun though observed worldwide as the World Environment Day has much more important connotation than the Environment Day for the public of Manipur because it is on this day in 1980 the maiden seed of higher education was sown in Manipur as the Manipur University in the historic ambience of Canchipur. The day is and must continue to be celebrated as the foundation day of Manipur University irrespective of the vicissitudes in its proprietorship from the State of Manipur to that of the Central Government. Oblivious to the general perception that summer vacation is a paid holiday for the teachers and the taught with no academic activity, the normal activities of the teachers and students especially the research scholars are hardly affected by the summer or winter vacation. In fact, it is the much fecund period of time when the teachers being temporarily relieved from their normal teaching schedules can devote more time to research and other academic or creative activities in sharp contrast to the common (mis)conception of being dubbed as paid holidays. One would always notice busy research scholars and teachers in their respective research labs well beyond the customary 5 pm mental barrier happily modeling and molding their tomorrows even during the summer or winter vacations. Curtailment or curbing of the vacation from the academic schedules would therefore be at the risk of deprivation of unearthing the latent talents of the researchers and the teacher guides as well.

Very unfortunately, this year in an unprecedented manner, the administrative block of the University has been locked out much before the scheduled summer vacation from Jun 6 till Jul 8, 2018 that led to slowly paralyzing the University and freezing almost all the academic activities in the University including a large number of examinations. The present impasse in the campus perhaps owes its genesis to the failure of the present VC to timely address some of the critical demands of the students which eventually boomerang into the present deadlock. Since then, the Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) has brought out a 15 points charge sheet besides a host of verbal allegations related to administrative and financial irregularities against the present VC demanding his immediate resignation or his dismissal from the present position.

Sensing the need and the urgency to restore normalcy in the campus in the larger interest of all the stake holders, the Manipur University Teachers’ Association (MUTA),mandated with a general body resolution, courteously appealed (as early as on May 4) the VC to publicly clarify the charges levelled against him at an early date with a view to immediately re-establishing the much needed normalcy in the campus. The present VC conveniently repudiated the appeal claiming that he owes no explanation whatsoever to the public, let alone the students’ body MUSU. The unyielding assertiveness of the VC to heed to the well-intended insinuations of teachers has coerced the teachers’ body MUTA to demand his resignation in resonance with the students demand in the larger interest of the University and the Society at large. Meanwhile the University continue to be in the state of ‘locked out’ with all academic activities at standstill. Left with no other option, another important section of the University, the Manipur University Staff Association (MUSA) has finally decided to join the movement against the present VC providing more impetus to the ongoing agitation. In a rare show of solidarity, MUSU, MUSA and MUTA staged a sit-in protest on Jun 26, 2018 against the indifferent attitude of the present VC demanding his immediate resignation to save the Manipur University from the worsening deterioration. The amalgamation of all the sections of the University community with a unanimous demand for the ouster of the present VC tells tales of the seriousness of the nature of charges levelled against him.

Among the charges levelled against the present VC, some are of very serious nature encompassing a wide spectrum ranging from financial and administrative irregularities, abuse and excessive misuse of its power and position, to willful violation of the rules and regulations of the University, while some are as hilarious as lack of punctuality and discipline in office. Regarding the charges related to administrative and financial irregularities including the misuse of power, only a high level independent enquiry can prove him guilty or otherwise. Unfortunately there is nothing to be probed or proved about his unpunctuality in coming to the University (allegedly after 12 noon!) and remaining in the office much beyond the official hour allegedly indulging in non-academic nocturnal activities. This is in addition to his usual absence from the University often with open ended leave applications flouting the normal established procedures for taking leave of absence.

Discipline and punctuality are two most essential traits required in any organization especially in institutions of higher learning like University to ensure not only the teachers and the taught but the other supporting staffs behave in an acceptable way in the campus and also adhere to the rules and regulations of the organization. It is of paramount importance that the Vice-Chancellor being the first member of the University community must necessarily emulate himself as the role model for the teachers and more importantly for the students who are at a critical stage of sculpting their own future. There are ample examples which suggest that individuals who are punctual and disciplined are not only likely to be more successful professionally but also in their personal lives. Like charity begins at home, punctuality and discipline in the University must begin at the office of the Vice Chancellor. On the other hand, lack of punctuality and the discipline in the highest office of the University would surely lead to slowly anaesthetizing the employees to attend office just for the sake of it thereby contributing, unfortunately, to the downfall of the University that provide them the employment! Again, indulging in an unbecoming manner and well avoidable misadventurism at the workplace would surely putrefy the entire work culture eventually leading to zero or negative productivity because there is grave differences between office and home and you just cannot behave in the same way at the work place as you would like to behave at home. This perhaps would be the most important reason, among others of course, of not finding the name of Manipur University among the first top 300 Universities in India, let alone the first 100! To be among the top few, let us first remind ourselves of the new concept of punctuality, ‘Early is on time, on time is late and late is unacceptable.’ Good attendance no longer means sliding through the door at five minutes past the hour. Who but the VC would enforce such punctuality and discipline in the University by setting an example himself!

Only a few days back, after more than 20 days of MUTA’s appeal, the present VC through a press conference brought out a point by point clarification of the MUSU’s 15 point charges. It is not intended to play a jury here but it is for all to see how defensive the present VC has become. He hadarrogantly declared that all the five academic Deans wereon his side supporting him and they had not resigned on their own but under duress. But, the next day showed the Deans nullifying the gospel declaration of the present VC by publicly stating that they had resigned on their own citing his nonchalant attitude, even to the Deans of the University! This is what one would like to call an Ostrich like approach of the present VC. The voluntary joining of the erstwhile Deans has provided the much needed ammunition and momentum to the present movement giving renewed vigor to all the sections of the University community which have meanwhile unified under the gravitational pull of the Chandranadi and the Manipur University. Sensing, perhaps, the severity of the ongoing agitation which has paralyzed the entire University for nearly a month now and its undesirable repercussions in the long run, the ministry of human resource development (MHRD) is reportedly convinced that the charges are not nonsensical warranting a serious re-examination. If the reports are to be true, the MHRD has agreed to set up an enquiry to look into the charges levelled against the present VC. Meanwhile the University continues to be in the same state of paralysis!

It is worth pondering why the MHRD decided to set up an enquiry committee and what would come out of it! But before that, is the ministry sending out a subtle message to the present VC that his days are but over and he should resign to his own fate or giving a catcall to remain in that Ostrich like position (approach) until the dust around him settles when he can get his VC-ship recharged full life-time! In either case, courtesy would demand that he remained under (forced)leave or suspension while the enquiry against him goes on and he has to patiently await the outcome of the enquiry at the expenses of the University. In case the enquiry committee outcome goes against him, there is no second option left but to willingly or unwillingly demit the office of the Vice Chancellor immediately. That would not add anything positive to his reputation or resume and he has nothing to gain personally or otherwise save tarnishing the image of the University. If the enquiry exonerates him of the charges (unlikely because the MHRD would not have set up the enquiry in the first place if the charges are of not so serious nature), he may once again come back as the Vice Chancellor. But as a fall out of the long agitation that has irreparably damaged the reputation of the University, the Deans, the teachers, non-teaching staff and most importantly the students perhaps would not be willing to co-operate with him rendering him to be like a king with no subjects! The impasse only stands to be further stretched and the normalcy would continue to evade all of us. The only option available before him is the Hobson’s choice and it is for the person concerned to see and comprehend the writings on the wall.

It may be of pertinence to remind one and all of the bold and courageous decision of Lal Bahadur Shastri, who resigned as Railway Minister owning moral responsibility for the Ariyalur train accident in Tamil Nadu that left 142 people dead. History has never recorded him as a cowardly person, on the contrary, he was hailed as the man of courage and integrity by none other than the former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Shastri later on succeeded Nehru as the second Prime Minister of India. Even recently, the erstwhile Railway Minister in the present Government, Suresh Prabhu, tendered his resignation taking moral responsibility for the two train derailments in a span of four days and he twitted,‘Extremely pained by unfortunate accidents, injuries to passengers and loss of precious lives. It has caused me deep anguish’. Recognizing his courage and moral uprightness, Suresh Prabhu was given even more important responsibility and is currently serving as the Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation in the present Government. Only people with nerves of steel and courage can listen to their conscience and invariable they end up to be in better position. We would always like to remember our leaders as man of courage and conviction. Why the number of people of ‘moral courage’, ‘moral responsibility’ and ‘impeccable integrity’ has sharply declined in our country?  

LAI HARAOBA – THE MOST IMPORTANT FESTIVAL (Merry Making of Umanglai)

Lai-Haraoba is celebrated in honour of the sylvan deities known as Umang-Lais, meaning deities of calm and quite environment of beautiful forests. The festival represents the worship of traditional deities and ancestors of the Manipuri society. It is usually observed during the month of Kalen tha (summer season).
With the coming of warm and hot season, KALENTHA the famous and important festival of LAIHARAOBA has been celebrated at the sacred places of UMANG LAI of the Manipur valley. It is mainly observed by the Meitei society. Here it is desirable and suitable to note the importance and significance of the month of KALENTHA according to ancient Puya. In this month Nongda Lairen Pakhangba comes down to the peaceful and rare place, KANGLA and stays with all beings. At this time the whole earth and Rain God arrives and God for long life. All different kinds of flowers bloom in this month and people admire the beauty of the flowers that are distributed to the people of four Panas and offer them to God. With this idea of praying to God all the people start the observance and celebration of Laiharaoba at every locality where Umanglais  are worshipped.
Four types of Lai Haraoba are prevalent in the Meitei society, namely, Kanglei Haraoba is performed in many parts of the valley of Manipur excepting Moirang, Kakching and those areas where Chakpa Haraoba are practised. Moirang Haraoba is only in Moirang, Kakching Haraoba is held in kakching and Chakpa Haraoba is celebrated at Andro, Phayeng, Sekmai, Koutruk, Khuukhul, Leimaram and Tairenpokpi.
The processes of the Laiharaoba Haraoba are:-
In every locality or village where the LAIHARAOBA is observed there is a consultant group consisting of Lai Salungba, elders, Laroi Singloi, Leiloi, Choubon, Pakhanglakpa, Ningollakpa. The decision for the commencement of the festival of Lai-Haraoba has to be taken by such consultant group. It is the responsibility of Lai Selungba and Choubon to inform Amaibi, Amaiba and Penakhongba and arrange for the beginning of the festival. Now-a-days besides the said consultant group more or less permanent local committees are formed for the festival and the local committee has constructed pucca, semi-pucca shrine and instal images of Umanglais at every locality.Thus it makes easy and effective for the arrangement of the festival. All the items required for the festival must be prepared one day ahead by Lai Selungba and elder women of the village. In the morning of the festival day the shrine and its surroundings are cleaned with water. In the evening all the prepared items for the festival are readily placed at the shrine. Next is the dressing and decoration of the deities, the images of which are made of either basket work or wood covered with masks made of brass. The dressing of deity is called Lai Phi Shetpa. After the dressing of both Lainingthou (male deity) and Larremma ( female deity) are ceremoniously placed on their rrespective thrones inside the shrine. This is known as Phamdengba.
The ritual of the festival starts with the calling up of the spirit from the water (a pond or a river), this is known as Lai Ichouba, the first step of the festival.
Both men and women, boys and girls dress with proper costumes participate at Lai Ickouba led by Maibi. Two persons are selected as Laipuba to carry the deity on the two ihaiphus (earthern pitchers) which contain ‘leiyum’, The Maibi (priestess) then wraps up ihaiphu containing hiri (a thread) in a higaophi (a kind of shawl) and tie then around the neck of Laipuba.
The Maibi then begins the opening dance Laihou Jagoi to the tune of Pena (a string musical instrument) alongwith the Maibas and the Pena singers, lead the procession to the river or the pond. The Maibi performs the ritual of Konyai Hunba by chanting the Konthabol, gold and silver coins (which are symbols of earth and sky) are thrown into the water. After this rite the Maiba or the Maibi performs the offering of Khayomlakpa. The Khayom of Lainingthou is known as Nongthak Khayom (sky or heaven) and that of Leiremma as Keikhagi khayom (the below or the earth). This is known as Leithak-Leikha lakpa  (binding of heaven and earth together). During this rite prayer is chanted when it is over both Khayoms are thrown into the water at the same time.
After offering of Khayom is over the Maibi takes the two lekhouphus from the Laipuba holding that of Laningthou in the right hand and that of Lairmma in the left hand. She then starts dancing knows as Chuk-Pharon Jagoi to please the lords of four directions viz, the Thangjing, the Maring, the Wangbren and the Koubru. The lekouphu then returned to the Laipuba, and the whole procession enters the court yard of the shrine and the Maiba and the Maibi hold the Hiri of the Ickouphus simultaneously approach the thrones the naval of the Laningthou and the Maibi that of the Lairemma. It is believed that at this moment the spirits of the deities are infused or transmitted into the images. This is known as Thawai Happa. The Maiba performs the purification rite known as Anam-Aha Kokpa and the Pena-singers sing Karakpa song in praise of the virtues and the chivalries of the deity. Later, the Maibi delivers the oracle (Laipao Chenba) she then performs the ritual of Saroi Khangba (feeding of evil spirits or rite of appeasement) to guard off disturbances and hurdles with observance of the festival. Thus comes the end of the most important and first step of Lai Haraoba Festival. Then the second step is the daily rituals in the morning. It starts with the singing of the Pena, to awaken the deity. This ritual is known as Yaikeiba or Yakaiba. This is followed by delivery of Laipao or oracles by the Maibi. Then the meal is served. In the afternoon a Maibi initiates the daily ritual with a dance known as Laihou Jagoi. This is followed by Lei-Langba offering of flowers by Leirol Hanjaba. Next comes the Hoi Hoi shouting by the Maiba, then comes up Laibou dance and singing of Anoirol or Naheirol. Then dances of individual or groups. All the willing persons old or young, male and female can join the dances. The duration of the festivals varies from place to place.
The third and the most important step of Lai Haraoba is the Laibou Dance that demonstrates the birth of a child, construction of a house, plantation of cotton, weaving of clothes and offering of the finished articles to the deity. The Laibou dance consisting of three hundred and sixty four (364) Khut-thek (hand movement) known as Laibou khut-thek. It
Depicts the formation of human anatomy and portraying the making of each part of a human body through dance is known as Hakchang saba. Likewise the Yumsharol Khut-Thek (dance of house building) symbolically depicts the various stages of house construction starting from looking for a land, levelling of the land, laying the foundation, process of constructing of the house and then dedicating it to the deity. It is followed by Panthoibi Jagoi- the duet dance portraying the romantic affairs between Nongpok Ningthou and Panthoibi demonstrating their first encounter, their falling into love at first sight and their subsequent love affairs. Next comes the Pam-Yanba deance that is recital dance portraying the cultivation of land by the people, the hand movements symbolically depict the cultivation of land, planting of cotton seeds, plucking the cotton, weaving and making of clothes and then dedicating it to the deity. Now-a-days this Panthoibi Jagoi is replaced by Khamba-Thoibi Dance (the legendary hero-heroine of Moirang) in almost all Lai-Haraobas. In addition to the ritual dances other dances even of filmy dances are performed to suit the taste of modern audience and rather to enterain the different types of the people.
The next important dance is Lairel Mathek (dance depicting the never ending cosmic creation in serpentine pattern). A Maiba has to lead this dance in procession as it bears ritually technical movement of hand and foot starting from south-west encircling each of the pillars of Mandop which signifies four directions. The procession moves in such a way that it looks like the moving of a serpent that  is why it is known as Lairel Matek Chatpa (moving of like serpent sesh-nag).
Then the next is Kanglei Thokpi in which the Maibi covering her face with a veil and holding a polo-stick (like hockey made of bamboo) hooks a girl from admist the crowd with the hooked end of the stick. The girls has to come out and dance with the Maibi. This is known as Lai Nupi Thiba (search of consort for the deity). This part of ritual has been dropped out in the present days because of certains problems like affecting of necklaces, tearing of clothes etc.
On the last day of the festival in the evening the sword dance known as Thang-Ta-Khousaba is performed by two Maibis-then Thangkhul Thokpa (appearance of Thangkhul tribes). It is a dance dream describing the meeting of Nongpok Ningthou dresses in a Thangkhul costume and Panthoibi dresses as a Thangkhul girl and their quarred over a piece of land and their final reconciliation then the last ritual of Augri Hangel dance and singing. It is believed that the singing of “Augri” is for the welfare and prosperity of the land and people or village concerned. After it there follows the performance of the rituals such as Thawai Mi-Kouba (calling of soul/spirit), Hithi-Yenthi Yeppa and Sharit-Litpa. Then comes Lai-Nong-Gaba (retreat of the deity to heaven). After this, the ritual of Lai-Tin-Thaba (appeasement of the deity) and then follows of Saroi-Khangba (feeding of evil spirits). Herein ends the ritual of Lai-Haraoba.
A day after Lai-Nong-Gaba, there are games and sports held at the courtyard of the shrine. On this day varieties of game like Mukna (Meitei wrestling) Kangjei (Meitei Hockey) Lamjel (Atheletics) Sagol Kangjei (Meitei Polo game) Thouri Ching Naba (tug of war) etc. In the atheletic game both men and women can participate but competitors are into two parties separately for male and female.
In the evening the Pena singer sings to seek forgiveness for any mistake inadvertently committed during the days of the festival. This is known as Keining Kumba.
These processes mentioned above are more or less similar to other three kinds of Lai Haraoba and Kakching Haraoba with some variations here and there. At present days the Lai-Lam-Thokpa (outing of the deities) of Chaka Haraoba is commonly seen in almost all Lai Haraoba Festivals as it becomes modern style of outing of the deities at the most crowded places like the market places. It is to suit the social change of the modern time. The details of the ritual parts are not elaborated in this book as it is not the purpose of this book.
