NSCN-IM claims on Assam territory spells out

Even as the details of the territories at which the NSCN-IM is claiming from Assam has not been spelled out, source close to Imphal Times said that, the outfit has prepared the draft for the specific one in connivance with the book called “From Phizo to Muivah: the Naga national question in North-East India, Delhi: Mittal Publications, 2002”, authored by A. Lanunungsang Ao. 
In our earlier issues, we have reported that the NSCN-IM has prepared a 50 point demands including restoration of Naga Areas occupied by Assam measuring around 4976 sq. Miles. We have also reported that in case the Government of India fails to restore the territories, the NSCN-IM demanded adequate compensation of the areas.
According to the book, the NSCN-IM is claiming portions from the Assam territories into four sectors – viz. Sector A, B, C & D.
In sector A, the territories claimed from Assam is the portion from Teok river on the North-east Nagaland- Arunachal  Border to Tijit river ( Tawkok) the old boundary between Assam and Nagas boundary. The total area claimed in this sector is 31. 31sq. miles.

In Sector B, the territories includes from Jhanjee to Desoi (Tsurang) and the stretch from Desoi crossing Kakodanga, Mukhurunga and Geladari unto a point on the Doyang and the following of the downstream of the Doyang river to the confluence of the Doyang and the Dhansari rivers. The total area claimed in this sector is 51. 20 sq. miles. plus 535.68 sq. Miles.
In Sector C, the claimed area includes the Present Eastern Block of Mikir Hills District and part of Northern Cachar Hills District, starting from the confluence of the Dhansari and Doyang and following the downstream of Dhansari to the confluence of Dhansari and Thorajan. The author stated that the area was forest area but during the last 7/8 years the Government of Assam has deforested a big area of the Nambor/Doyang Reserved Forests and brought a considerable number of Kacharis, Mikirs and others from other parts of the state and gave settlement in this area. Now a days, a large number of Nepalis / Bangladeshi are settling in the area. The claimed area is 2825.76sq. miles.
In Sector D, the claimed area includes the present NCH Districts mainly inhabited by the Zemi Nagas. Total area claimed in this sector is 1 430.40 sq. Miles.
The Sector-wise total area transferred out of Nagaland now claimed by Nagas is thus 4974.16 sq. miles.

AR man killed in MPA ambush at Chandel district

At least one personnel of the 24 AR troopers was killed and 2 others were reportedly injured when suspected cadres of the MPA, the army wing of rebel group UNLF ambushed them at Satang Village area near Kwatha under Moreh Police station, near Indo-Myanmar Border in Chandel district at around 6 am today.
According to report reaching here, well armed cadres of the Manipur Peoples’ Army (MPA) today strike ambush to a convoy of 24 AR troopers who were on duty at the area, using sophisticated weapon. The AR trooper too retaliated and the gun-battle between the two groups lasted for nearly 5 hours. The rebels reportedly fled the ambush site after more Assam Rifles troopers reinforced at the site.
The slain AR has been identified as Rifleman Paokholot Baite. Identities of the injured are yet to be identified.

Mention may be made that, the District administration of Ukhrul and Chandel has imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC since October 12, this year for a period of 6 months. The prohibitory order was imposed to check cross border movement of insurgence and smuggling of illegal items including arms and drugs.
It may also be reminded that the rebel group UNLF is celebrating its 51st Raising day on November 24, 2015. State Intelligence source input suggested the ambush to have been carried out in connection with the Raising Day of the outfit. It also alerted the security forces both at Hills and plain cautioning more attack from the outfit before November 25.

DESAM urges MPSC to call off the test for recruitment of Asst. Profs.

DESAM urges Manipur Public Service Commission, (MPSC) to call off the screening test for the recruitment of Asst Professors for vacant post in 28 Government colleges in Manipur.
DESAM president Angamba told media persons in a meeting held here in its office at Keishampat that the notification regarding recruitment of the post of Asst. Professor which was released on 15 November 2014 was not clear and it provokes controversies. In the notice he said, it was mentioned that the applicants should have passed NET/SLET or SET in minimum qualification. It was also mentioned that as per UGC latest regulation (2009) that those candidates who registered for Ph.D or declared the degree after 2009 are exempted from NET/SLET or SET. While of those before 2009 must have NET/SLET or SET. And 600 applicants have already rejected in this criteria, he added.
He further said this will be an act of sabotaging the career of the students.

The TV serial was produced based on true story of various woman and girls of the state who fell as victims of conflict, rape and domestic violence. A function on the occasion was held today at Manipur Press Club. Agriculture Minister Md. Nashir attended as Chief Guest while President of ISTV Network, Khamba Salam presided over it. Govt. PP Ng. Tejkumar, SC of CADA Monoranjan, AMWJU President W. Shyamjai and Screen play writer Dhanachandra attended the occasion as guest of honours.

Manipur & Assam News Bulletin on National Channel which will broadcast on Sadhana Plus channel was launched today at Manipur Press Club.
While sharing Manipur media’s struggle in bringing up issues of Manipur and North East on National News channel, CMD Savannah Consultants Pvt. Ltd said that News of Manipur is being aired on National Channels for 6mins everyday regularly. He said his channel which will broadcast on Sadhana Plus during its news at 7-8.30 in the morning and 7-8.30. The news stories will be mainly based on investigative stories and will highlight the present social issues.

Rally staged demanding action against Police Commando

JAC formed against the brutal torture of Md. Ataur Rahaman by Manipur Police Commando today staged a protest rally at Lillong area demanding action against the Police Commando Personnel involved in the looting and torturing of Ataur Rahman. Ataur Rahman was allegedly assaulted by Manipur Police Commando after picking him up from the Old State Assembly road some days back and was thrown unconscious at Mantripukhri area by the same after looting a sum of Rs. 6 lakhs. He is at present undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital and Research Center. Langol. The JAC members also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Manipur.

Cleanliness drive

2 AR, C-Coy in association with the Yairipok Municipal Council today kicks off the 7 days social service capm at Bamol Leikai Youth Club Yairipok as a part of the Swaach Bharat Mission. The inaugural function of the 7 day social service was attended by Major PK Thakur, Commander, 2 AR C-Coy Yairipok , Keisham Rupachandra Singh, Chairperson Yairipok Municipal Council, Prafullo Meetei, President BYCY and M. Samuel, Founder, Kids Mold School Yairipok Bamol Leikai as Chief Guest, President and guest of honours.
On the occasion an awareness programme to keep our surrounding clean was also held. On the other hand Wangjing Lamding Municipal Council also conducted a cleanliness drive under the Ministry of urban Development, Govt. of India at Wangjing Keithel. The cleanliness drive will continue for three days in and around the Wangjing Keithel area.
